Nike Dream Team Collection

Category : Nike

1992 was the first time in sporting history that professional basketball players from the NBA would be allowed to compete together on the world’s biggest sporting stage.

The USA assembled a team of hard hitters who became known as ‘The Dream Team’, and the whole world would anticipate the outcome as this team of All Stars set out to dominate the competition, with only one goal insight – returning home with Olympic Gold.

While 20-years might have passed since the Games, the team are considered to be greatest team ever assembled, with a history that resonates its way into the NBA hall of fame. This year, however, the superstars of 2012 will have their turn to reprise their roles as part of the ‘Dream Team’, and to defend the Gold Medal in honour of their predecessors. And what better way to do it than rocking the same kicks as their predecessors two decades before?

Nike Air Force 180 Trainers. The Air Force 180 is dubbed one of the most treasured basketball shoes of all time. Not only because of its 180 degree visible air unit, but also due to the fact that it was designed to represent one of Nike’s most unique endorsers in the history of basketball. Flashback to 1991 (in what would be a predecessor to 1996’s Space Jam), and you would find a 10-ft cartoon Charles Barkley stomping television screens worldwide, shown crushing his opponents and literally tearing the court apart – And all in the name of Nike Air. And it seemed that Nike had somehow captivated the legendary Sir Charles Barkley’s ruthlessly aggressive playing style and controversial off-court attitude into one flawless silhouette.

Nike Air More Uptempo Trainers. The Air More Uptempo is not a basketball silhouette for the faint hearted. It’s not subtle, by any means, and when considering that it shared the limelight with the likes of Reebok’s Shaqnosis, and sported the most visible air ever previously seen on a basketball sneaker, it really didn’t need to be. It’s superiority on the court was cemented by none-other than poster boy Scottie Pippen: the only basketball star to have won the NBA title and Olympic Gold medal in the same year twice, first in the 1992 Dream Team year and then in the consecutive 1996 Olympics. The classic’s revisit even pays tribute to Scottie’s time on the Dream Team, featuring an embroidered number eight on the heel.

Nike Air Force 1 Hi Trainers. The Air Force 1 always has, and always will be, a legendary sneaker, paving the way for 30-years worth of Nike Basketball silhouettes that might compete, but will forever remain in the shadow of the originator. Despite the fact that the Air Force 1 didn’t actually get any game time back in ’92, it is, without question, the biggest ambassador for the ‘Dream Team’ collection due to its thoroughly rich sneaker heritage.
